Chase, crash end in drug charges

A Little Rock woman was arrested on drug charges after crashing her vehicle while fleeing deputies Monday, the Pulaski County sheriff’s office reported.

Deputies spotted Philadelphia Shields, 22, making an illegal turn at Arkansas 10 and Ferndale Cutoff Road about 7:30 p.m. She was driving at a high rate of speed, according to an arrest report, and did not stop when deputies activated their emergency lights. At a curve in the 8300 block of Ferndale Cutoff, Shields crossed into the opposite lane while attempting to pass another vehicle, deputies reported. She lost control and crashed into a culvert.

Shields then purportedly fled on foot, but was arrested soon afterward. Deputies reported finding a smoking pipe and a small bag of what they believed to be marijuana in Shields’ vehicle.

She was charged with delivery, possession or manufacturing drug paraphernalia or a counterfeit controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and fleeing.

Shields was being held in lieu of $5,000 bond in the Pulaski County jail late Tuesday.

Man wielding bat arrested in NLR

A baseball bat-wielding man was arrested outside a North Little Rock apartment complex Tuesday morning, police reported.

An officer responded about 6:30 a.m. to Silver City Courts, a North Little Rock Housing Authority complex at 701 W. 18th St. That’s where a resident had called 911 to report that a man with a bat was outside and looked suspicious. The resident told police that during the call, the suspect pointed the bat at him and demanded he “drop the phone,” according to an arrest report. There was a brief struggle over the bat, after which the suspect ran away.

The officer arrived on the scene as the suspect was fleeing, and after a brief foot chase, the suspect surrendered.

Sterling Woolford, 29, was charged with aggravated robbery, fleeing and carrying certain prohibited weapons. He was being held in the Pulaski County jail in lieu of bond late Tuesday.
