One killed, two hurt after pickup rolls, ejects occupants

One man was killed and two others hurt when a pickup rolled Tuesday south of Stuttgart in Arkansas County, ejecting all three occupants, police said.

Arkansas State Police say the 2002 Chevrolet pickup was traveling north on Arkansas 11 about 8:20 p.m. when it ran a stop sign at Arkansas 165, crossed that highway and veered out of control.

According to a report released Wednesday, the pickup then hit a ditch bank off of South Yoder Road and rolled over, ejecting the driver and two passengers.

One of the passengers, 35-year-old Deshaun M. Gaither of Dewitt, suffered fatal injuries, police said.

The second passenger, 27-year-old Terrance W. Harris of Dewitt, and the driver, 36-year-old Shawn Lane of Dewitt, were transported to St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock. The report did not indicate the extent of their injuries.

Conditions at the time of the single-vehicle wreck were said to be clear and dry.

The death marked the 98th fatality in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
