When Debbie Bush, 56, didn’t show up for her job Tuesday morning at Wilson Elementary School, where she had worked in the child nutrition department for nearly 30 years, a colleague tried to call her phone. When Bush didn’t answer, her co-worker, Mattie Norman, went to Bush’s 4122 Tatum St. home about 10:53 a.m. She noticed the carport door was open and went inside.

According to police reports, Norman found Bush in her bedroom, with blood all over the bed and floor.

Bush had been stabbed, department spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said, and was pronounced dead in her home by the county coroner’s office.

The Little Rock School District superintendent, Dexter Suggs, sent a statement to community members mourning the longtime employee’s death and informed them that grief counselors will be available to students at Bush’s school.

Allen said he didn’t know if detectives had recovered the murder weapon but said officers did find the woman’s car, which neighbors and family reported missing when her body was found.

Officers found Bush’s 2002 Cadillac Deville about 9 p.m. in the 7600 block of Morris Drive, roughly 7 miles from her home.

Allen said detectives did not alert him of any evidence found, adding that detectives didn’t have any suspects or motive for the woman’s killing.
