SAU sets watershed, stream conservation meeting

MAGNOLIA — Southern Arkansas University is inviting anyone interested in watershed and stream conservation to attend a public meeting at the school's science center.

Thursday's gathering is part of the university's Stream Team program, which involves the restoration and conservation of Dorcheat Bayou.

The cleanup effort in the area includes collecting trash, water quality monitoring, biological monitoring of local species and studies on endangered species.

The program is an outreach and volunteer initiative by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, which lets concerned citizens and community groups become involved in stream and watershed conservation.

Efforts revolve around three areas of stream conservation: education, advocacy and stewardship.
