Tavern books Texas acts,Arkansas’ Mulehead

If the White Water Tavern was a horse racing track, it would be boasting three well-regarded entrants this weekend who have competed well in previous sprints, starting today at 9:30 p.m. with The Sideshow Tragedy, an Austin, Texas, blues punk-rock-R&B band.

The Sideshow Tragedy is at work on its fifth album at Old Soul Studios in New York. Their producer, Kenny Siegal, has worked with The New Pornographers, Joseph Arthur, Langhorne Slim and Beirut. The band recorded its fourth album, Persona, in its hometown of Austin. The group consists of frontman Nathan Singleton and drummer Jeremy Harrell.

Admission is $5.

At 9:30 p.m. Friday, the club will welcome back Adam Carroll, a Texan who will debut his latest album, Let It Choose You, his eighth CD of songs he wrote or co-wrote. The album’s dozen songs have themes inspired by the Gulf of Mexico and Louisiana towns that include Alexandria, Opelousas, Lake Charles, Kinder, Eunice, Ossun, Baton Rouge and Lafayette.

Christian Marie Carroll will open the show for her husband.

His earlier albums include Far Away Blues in 2005 and Old Town Rock and Roll in 2008. Texas musician peer Hayes Carll praised Carroll in 2011 in No Depression magazine: “I used to skip my own gigs to go watch him.”

Admission is $10.

Saturday at 9:30 p.m., Mulehead, the legendary central Arkansas band that rarely plays in public, will do so. Chris Michaels will open the show.

Admission is $5.

A full weekend of shows is set for Stickyz Rock ’n’ Roll Chicken Shack.

Wrangler Space, a Widespread Panic tribute band formed in February 2009, will perform at 9:30 Friday night. The band takes its name from turning around the name of Widespread Panic’s first studio album, Space Wrangler.

Admission is $6 in advance, $8 the day of the show.

On Saturday at 9 p.m .,the club will host Four on the Floor, a group that won $10,000 at the 2008 Isle of Capri competition among regional bands. The four-man group has opened shows for Heart, Ted Nugent, Hinder and Jackyl.

Admission is $6.

At 8 p.m. Sunday, Touch, the Grateful Dead tribute band whose members are also in other central Arkansas bands, returns for its first show since October. The band, which began completing an album in January, marked its second anniversary in June.

Admission is $4.

Paul Wall will headline a four-act evening at 9 p.m. today at the Rev Room.

Opening acts are Triggaman, Young Jose and The Corner Kingz.

Admission is $20 or $30 for “VIP” seating.

At 8 p.m. Friday, the club will host an electronic set by Zodiac: Edward 40 Hands Edition featuring Ryan Viser.

Opening acts will be Platinumb, Lawler, SWR, Ewell, Mr. Napalm and Explicit.

Admission is $6 for those over age 21, $10 for those under 21. (The first 30 people whose zodiac sign is Aries will be admitted free.)

At War’s End will headline an 8:30 p.m. Saturday show. The band was formed in 2008 by a former U.S. Marine. The central Arkansas group is recording with former Evanescence drummer Rocky Gray, who is now a member of We Are the Fallen.

Opening acts are Nottaway, Enchiridion and Evacuate the City.

Admission is $10.

Juanita’s will present “Indie Music Night” at 10 p.m. Saturday, with a $10 cover charge.

Sunday at 7 p.m., the club will host Wayne Static, formerly of the band Static-X, which Static disbanded in June after disputes with the band’s bassist. Static has collaborated with Run DMC, Opiate for the Masses, Skinny Puppy and Godhead. Static is known for his “chintail” beard and his high vertical hair.

Opening acts are We Are the Riot, Corvus and Dark From Day One.

Admission is $15.

Maxine’s in Hot Springs will host Otis the Destroyer, an experimental Texas rock group, at 9 p.m. today.

Friday night at 9 p.m., the club will present three Arkansas bands: 12 Tone Elevator (garage noise rock), Captain Nowhere (rock, psychedelic and blues) and Duckstronaut (electric washboards).

Admission is $5.

New young country singer Dustin Lynch will headline the 11th annual Star-Daze Festival in Star City this weekend.

On Saturday, country band Parmalee will perform at 7 p.m., followed by Lynch at 9 p.m.

Admission to the festival is free, and the show will be on the Lincoln County Courthouse lawn. Other bands and musicians will perform earlier in the day, and there will be vendors and activities of many varieties.

Lynch, 28, released his debut album in 2012 and has written more than 200 “party songs and ballads” in less than two years. His hit singles include “Cowboys and Angels,” “She Cranks My Tractor,” “Wild in Your Smile” and “Where It’s At.”
