Conway girl, 4, found in Forrest City after kidnapping

A 4-year-old Conway girl is being reunited with her grandparents Friday afternoon after she was kidnapped by her non-custodial father Friday morning, police say.

About 10:22 a.m., Conway police got a call about a possible kidnapping from a residence, Conway Police Department spokesman Latresha Woodruff said.

When officers arrived to the home, the grandparents and legal guardians of 4-year-old Brighton Gibbs said the girl's non-custodial father, Nakai Gibbs, had picked her up without permission.

"We spent all morning trying to figure out where he might go," Woodruff said.

Conway police later figured out that Gibbs had family ties in the Wynne area, she said.

About 3 p.m., the Lonoke County jail told Conway police that Gibbs and Brighton were in custody, but didn't turn out to be the case.

"A few minutes later, we found out they did not have them in custody," Woodruff said.

Police were told about 30 minutes later that the father and daughter were actually in police custody in Forrest City.

Woodruff said Conway police are not yet sure if Brighton has been reunited with her grandparents but confirmed that she is safe.
