A woman is suspected of killing her husband and then attempting to kill herself early Friday at a downtown Little Rock apartment building, police said.

Police were called before 7 a.m. to Buffington Tower Apartments, 224 E. Seventh St., in reference to a cutting.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said the male victim, whose name hasn't been released, died of an apparent knife injury. His wife also had lacerations on her arm.

Allen said in a statement that the wife "is believed to have given a life-ending injury to her husband with a knife."

"The female suspect then attempted to commit suicide by cutting her wrists," Allen said. "She was transported to a local hospital and will be interviewed after treatment of her injuries."

Pulaski County Coroner Gerone Hobbs said at the scene it was too early to know details on the death in the sixth-story unit, but he described the scene as "bloody."

The woman was taken out of the apartment building at Seventh and Cumberland streets on a stretcher shortly after the initial call. She was conscious with an apparent bandage on her hand.

A Little Rock Fire Department spokesman had initially called it a murder-suicide but referred questions to police.
