The Memphis Police Department has charged one of its own officers with sexual battery during a February traffic stop, the department said Friday.
Officer Meekos Evans, 30, stopped a woman driving near Eastwind Drive and East Raines Road in the Whitehaven area on Feb. 11, police said in a statement. After he got the 30-year-old woman out of her vehicle, the department said, "Evans inappropriately touched the victim’s breasts and released her from the traffic stop."
The department conducted an internal investigation after receiving a complaint and charged Evans with sexual battery, according to the department. Evans, who has worked at the department since January 2011, is on non-enforcement status pending the outcome of an administrative probe, the department added.
Evans is assigned to the Raines Station, 791 E. Raines Road.
