Assailed in LR lot, woman, 87, says

An elderly woman was pushed to the ground in an attempted robbery while unloading her groceries early Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Geneva Davenport, 87, was leaving the Walgreens at 5917 Baseline Road at 12:40 p.m. when a young man approached her and asked her if she needed help with her groceries.

When she got to the car, he grabbed her purse and knocked her to the ground but wasn’t able to take the purse. According to police, the fall did not injure Davenport.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-8, 150-pound black man in his late teens, wearing dark jeans, white shoes and a white hooded sweatshirt.

After purportedly being robbed at gunpoint and providing officers with a “very confusing and inconsistent” account of the assault, a Little Rock man was arrested Wednesday on an outstanding warrant and additionally charged with drug possession, according to an arrest report.

Police responded shortly after 10 p.m. to Auxora Arms Apartments at 9101 Auxora Road, where Zachary Mitchell told officers that his wallet and $875 had been stolen.

Mitchell, 20, told officers that he entered a vehicle with an acquaintance whose name he did not know. After picking up three other passengers, the acquaintance said he had to relieve himself and exited the vehicle. That’s when a man in the back seat put a gun to Mitchell’s head, robbed him and fled with the other passengers.

He gave conflicting accounts of which direction the men fled, and he could not provide a specific location of the assault, officers reported.

After officers completed their initial investigation, Mitchell’s family called police numerous times regarding the purported robbery. Officers returned and discovered that Mitchell had an outstanding arrest warrant for an unpaid fine. He had an unspecified illegal drug when he was arrested and was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, the report says.
