Widening U.S. 167 topic of Hampton meeting

State highway officials plan to hold a public meeting next week about plans to widen U.S. 167 in Calhoun County.

The construction plan calls for expanding a nine-mile stretch of the highway to five lanes between Bangs Slough and Arkansas 172 and turning it into a four-lane divided road between Arkansas 172 and Hampton, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said in a statement.

The meeting seeking public input is set for 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Hampton High School cafeteria, 455 E. Main St. in Hampton.

All are invited to visit during the meeting to view displays, ask questions and offer comments, highway officials said. More information is available by calling the department's Environmental Division at (501) 569-2281.
