UCA men sign 10th recruit

Central Arkansas men’s Coach Russ Pennell has added his 10th recruit to this year’s signing class, forward Christian Musoko.

Musoko, a native of Congo, averaged 13.7 points and 15.2 rebounds per game last season at Layton (Utah) Christian Academy. Musoko, 6-8, 235 pounds, also received scholarship offers from Arizona, Brigham Young and Utah.

Pennell signed nine players Wednesday, which was the first day of the national signing period.

GOLF Arkansas women delayed

Due to a four-hour rain delay, Arkansas took over 3 1/2 hours to play its first nine holes before darkness suspended play at the SEC Women’s Championship in Birmingham, Ala.

Arkansas, South Carolina and Alabama, all playing together, were the only teams not to finish and will return at 8 a.m. today to finish the round.

Arkansas’ Regina Plasencia is even through 15 holes and is tied for third overall. Emily Tuber is at 1 over par and Gabriela Lopez is tied for 14th at 2 over.

LSU finished and has the clubhouse lead at 286. Auburn (296) and Vanderbilt (298) are second and third, respectively.

SOFTBALL Arkansas falls at Kentucky

Arkansas fell 4-3 to Kentucky on Friday at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Ky.

Amanda Geile and Clarisa Navarro had RBI singles for the Razorbacks (25-21, 3-13 SEC).

Arkansas scored three times in the third inning before Kentucky (37-8, 11-5) tied it with three runs in the fifth with the benefit of two Arkansas errors. The Wildcats scored the winning run ion the sixth.

Sydney Wright (4-5) gave up 4 hits and allowed 4 runs, 1 earned, in 6 innings and suffered the loss.

UCA beats Houston Baptist

Kylee Studioso pitched a one-hitter and Ashley Boswell had three RBI to help Central Arkansas (20-29, 9-11 Southland Conference) beat Houston Baptist (16-23, 10-11) 5-1 on Friday in Conway.

Boswell had a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 game.

Studioso (12-8) allowed 1 hit while walking 5 and striking out 10.

Arkansas Tech takes 2 from Henderson State

Arkansas Tech (26-24, 14-20 Great American Conference) defeated Henderson State (26-19, 22-12) 5-2 and 2-1 on Friday at the Chartwells Women’s Softball Complex in Russellville.

The Golden Suns won the first game when Ashton Long hit a three-run home run to end the game.

In the second game, Whitney Robinson went 3 for 6 with 2 RBI.

Harding splits with Ouachita Baptist

Harding split with Ouachita Baptist on Friday, losing the first game 1-0 before winning 6-1 in the second game in Searcy.

In the first game, Kate Lacina hit a home run to center field in the top of the ninth inning for the game’s only run for Ouachita Baptist (17-31, 12-22 Great American Conference). Abbi Frakes (10-13) pitched a complete game for the victory, giving up 4 hits. Amber Rollins (15-11) took the loss for Harding despite striking out 15.

In the second game, Harding (28-23, 20-18), scored twice in the first inning when Carolyn Clayton drove in one run and Kimmy Hendricks grounded out to pick up the second run.

BASEBALL Arkansas Tech tops Henderson

Arkansas Tech scored three times in the third inning to defeat Henderson State 7-2 on Friday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.

Henderson State (17-24, 11-14 Great American Conference) led 2-1 after two innings before Zac Johnson hit a three-run home run in the third to put the Wonder Boys up.

Arkansas Tech (34-8, 20-5) added one more in the sixth and two in the ninth.

Ryan Taylor (4-2) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 1/3 innings. Colton Lorance (5-3) suffered the loss for the Reddies.

Ozarks sweeps Hardin-Simmons

The University of the Ozarks’ pitching staff struck out 19 in a doubleheader, beating Hardin-Simmons 1-0 and 8-7.

Jeffery Works struck out 10 in the first game, during which Freddy Prince had the game-winning hit for Ozarks (12-22, 8-19 American Southwest Conference).

In the second game, Tyler Erickson, Danny Gable and Andrew Beck combined to strike out nine. John Singler went 6 for 7 in the sweep.

UA-Fort Smith sweeps Texas A&M-International

Arkansas-Fort Smith (18-21, 11-13 Heartland Conference) swept Texas A&M-International 5-2 and 9-7 on Friday in Fort Smith.

Justin Cordray (3-5) allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits and struck out 2 to earn the victory in the first game. Andrew Arteaga went 1 for 3 with an RBI.Hendrix tops Sewanee

Hendrix College defeated Sewanee 7-3 at Montgomery Field on Friday in Sewanee, Tenn.

The Warriors (21-15) scored once in the second inning, three times in the fourth and three times in the sixth. Michael Walker hit a two-run triple, Collin Radack had a home run and Spencer Summers had a two-run double.

Will Nichol (4-0) picked up the victory, striking out 5 and allowing 5 hits, 3 runs and 2 walks over 6 innings.
