Arkansas achievers

Jason Lawrence has been named the 2014 Officer of the Year by the Arkansas Court Officers Association. He has worked at the Garland County District Court since 2000, and he has been vice president of the Court Officers Association since 2009.

Alex Shannon of Little Rock has received the Nan Christian Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship to attend Centenary College in Shreveport.

Emily Cole of Hot Springs has received the 1825 Scholarship to attend Centenary College.

Sara Sharos of Bentonville, a theater major at the University of Central Arkansas, has been awarded the Society for Properties, Artisans and Managers award. The award recognizes her properties’ design for the university’s production of A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur at the Region VI Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, held recently at Centenary College.

Carole Engle, director of the Aquaculture/Fisheries Center of Excellence at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, has received the U.S. Aquaculture Society Distinguished Service Award. Engle led the university’s development of its first research-based Master of Science program and its first doctoral program. She serves on advisory councils including the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Advisory Committee and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Science Advisory Board. She also is an editor or lead editor for several journals.

Drew Baggett of Maumelle has been awarded a Leadership Scholarship to attend Williams Baptist College. He is a home-schooled senior and the son of Mark and Dana Baggett.

Rachael Barnett of Benton has been awarded a President’s Scholarship to attend Williams Baptist College. She is a senior at Benton High School and the daughter of Wesley and Ann Barnett.

Sandra Massey, chancellor at Arkansas State University-Newport, has been named a recipient of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award, which recognizes efforts to support members of the Guard or Reserve and their spouses. She was nominated for the award by Matt Rice, president of the ASU-Newport Student Veterans Association.

Oklahoma City University has announced recipients of scholarships: Bridget Davis of Little Rock has been awarded a merit scholarship.

Emily Davies of Little Rock has been awarded a merit scholarship.

Jordan Myres of Little Rock has been awarded a merit scholarship and a departmental scholarship.

Mary Brighton of Little Rock has been awarded a merit scholarship and a departmental scholarship.

Morgan Maxwell of Sherwood has been awarded a merit scholarship.

Rebecca Hughes of Little Rock has been awarded a merit scholarship.

Arkansas Achievers is an opportunity to give recognition to Arkansans for their achievements.

Civilian and military achievements are accepted.

2) Received an award, scholarship, medal or promotion.

Pageants, deans’ lists, graduations or military enlistments are not accepted.
