Economics Arkansas event profitable for award winners

The annual Excellence in Free Enterprise Awards Luncheon, hosted by Economics Arkansas, was held April 11 at the Little Rock Marriott.

“The purpose of today is to celebrate a champion of free enterprise,” said board member Randy Zook about Charles H. MurphyJr., the late El Dorado businessman who headed the Murphy Corp., later Murphy Oil Corp. His son, Madison Murphy, accepted the award on behalf of the family. He noted that his father would have been very pleased with the award, and thanked the organization for honoring his father’s memory and legacy.

Arthur Brooks of Bethesda, Md., president of the American Enterprise Institute, was keynote speaker. Also speaking during the program were Nan Morrison, president of the Council for Economic Education, and Sue Owens, executive director of Economics Arkansas.

Economics Arkansas is a nonprofit education organization that helps provide economic education and training to Arkansas teachers and students.

Murphy died in 2002 at the age of 82.
