Fay Jones School names new dean

FAYETTEVILLE - Peter MacKeith has been named dean of the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

MacKeith will take over July 1. He is an architecture professor at Washington University in St. Louis and has served since 2011 on the UA architecture school’s professional advisory board.

He will earn $206,000 a year. The previous dean, Jeff Shannon, earned $185,813. Shannon resigned in 2013 and is now a UA architecture professor, earning $148,650 annually.

The architecture school has about 460 undergraduate students. It includes departments of architecture, landscape architecture and interior design.

MacKeith earned a bachelor’s degree in English and international relations from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in architecture from Yale, according to a UA statement announcing his hiring.

He has published work relating to Finnish and Nordic architecture. In recognition of his cultural contributions, he was knighted by the Finnish government, in February receiving the formal recognition of Knight, First Class, of the Order of the Lion of Finland, according to the UA statement.
