FOR THE BIRDS: The independent film A Birder’s Guide to Everything, which stars Ben Kingsley and received rave reviews, will be screened at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday at Dickinson Chenal 9 IMAX. The film, which opened at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, has an Arkansas connection - one of the producers, Lisa Jenkins, is the sister-in-law of Andrea Jenkins of the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission. Another Arkansas connection?

The fictional character played by Kingsley once participated in the hunt for the ivory-billed woodpecker in Arkansas. Tickets are available at tugg.com/ events/8506.

MONEY TALK: In the annual “What People Earn!” feature in the edition of Parade magazine distributed by this paper last Sunday, Arkansas was represented by Heather Proctor of Malvern. The 39-year-old earns $19,000 annually working in the kitchen of Waffle House where, the article states, her pork chops are a customer favorite. Just to the left of Proctor’s photo and information was pop music superstar Beyonce, 32, who pulls in an estimated $57 million a year.

JOINING THE CLUB: TMZ Sports last week posted a video of and article about pro golfer John Daly of Dardanelle hitting a golf ball placed on a tee being held in the mouth of a woman lying on the ground. The shot is “100% real,” the woman, Katherine Michelle, tells the website. Michelle is a friend of Daly’s girlfriend, Anna Cladakis. Daly took the shot April 10 in Augusta, Ga. But the 47-year-old golfer wasn’t there playing in the 2014 The Masters. Instead, he continued his tradition of selling his merchandise in the Hooter’s parking lot.

Daly has performed this stunt before. In 2012, the golfer, whose motto is “grip it and rip it,” hit a drive off golf TV commentator David Feherty’s face, reports USA Today.

MELLOW YELLOW: Those attending North Little Rock’s week-long photo exhibit celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ arrival in the United States might have wondered why the USS Razorback’s sail (the fin, which hides the submarine’s periscope) was not painted yellow as planned in tribute to the Beatles’ song and movie, Yellow Submarine.

“All the rain and wind we had forced us to change plans,” explains Jim Gates, the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum’s maintenance chief. Instead, a replica sail that tops the float used in the city’s holiday parade was painted and displayed nearby.
