Lenard Montgomery, 25, of 1872 S. Park St., was shot multiple times and was taken to a Little Rock hospital where he later died.

Montgomery’s death is the city’s 16th homicide of the year.

A witness told Little Rock police officers that she was on her way to visit a friend about 10 p.m. Friday when she passed three or four black men and a black woman arguing in the parking lot of Oak Ridge Apartments in southwest Little Rock.

Shortly after passing them, she heard gunshots, she told officers. However, she said, she did not see who fired the shots.

Several shell casings were found scattered in front of the east breezeway of Building 4 at the apartment complex, a police report said. Puddles of blood were found on the sidewalk and in the parking lot in front of the building’s west breezeway.

Police reported also finding bullet holes in the hood and windshield of a 2009 Ford Expedition nearby, as well as in the back of a 2003 Ford Focus.

A black handgun was found in the parking lot in front of the west breezeway.

Kierra Dancy, 21, owner of the Ford Expedition, said Saturday that she had seen people hanging around outside when she pulled into the parking lot earlier that evening. The gathering did not alarm her, she said, because “people are always hanging around outside.”

Dancy said she and her best friend later heard gunshots.

“I went ‘Oh my God, my car is right there,’” she said.

The back glass of the Expedition was shattered, and bullet holes were found in the windshield, the hood and on the driver-side rear frame of the back glass.

The slaying is under investigation, and there was no description of any suspects in the police report.

Police do not believe the shooting was gang-related, the report said.
