USGS reports several small earthquakes in Arkansas

— The U.S. Geological Survey reports that several small earthquakes have been recorded near Fairfield Bay in central Arkansas.

The USGS reports show five quakes with preliminary magnitudes from 1.7 to 2.1 were recorded from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning -- each about eight miles southwest of Fairfield Bay. The area is about 50 miles north of Little Rock.

Police say there are no reports of injury or damage.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage is not likely with earthquakes below magnitude 4.0.
