Woman hit by vehicle on Baseline Road

A woman was left injured after she was struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, police say.

Ruben-Antonio Marquez, 39, told police he was driving west about 8:23 p.m. Saturday in the inside lane of Baseline Road when two people walked in front of his 2001 gold Ford F-250 pickup, according to an accident report. He told police that the two pedestrians, identified as Velina Nelson and William King, who are homeless, appeared to be arguing and pulling on each other in the middle of the lane, the report states.

King, 43, told police that he was trying to cross Baseline Road with Nelson, 58, who was struck by Marquez’s truck.

Nelson suffered a shattered femur and head trauma from the accident, and was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment, the report states.

Marquez consented to a blood test at the scene, and charges are pending, according to the report.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said in an email that the status of Nelson’s injuries were unknown Monday morning.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of the accident.
