Arkansas Tech University has selected its 12th president.

The university's board of trustees on Tuesday unanimously elected Robin E. Bowen to succeed Robert C. Brown, who plans to retire June 30 after 21 years as the university's president, university officials said in a statement. Brown will hold the titles of president emeritus and distinguished professor of economics at the university effective July 1.

Bowen, who will be the first female president of a four-year public university in Arkansas, comes to Arkansas from Massachusetts, where she currently serves as executive vice president and provost at Fitchburg State University, the news release states.

She and her husband, Doug, have two daughters and one son.

Arkansas Tech has campuses in Russellville and Ozark.
