Deltic Timber’s 1Q net income tumbles

El Dorado-based Deltic Timber Corp. on Monday reported first-quarter net income of $4.9 million, or 39 cents a share, down 27.9 percent compared with the same quarter a year ago.

In a statement released after the markets closed, Ray Dillon, Deltic’s president and chief executive officer, attributed the decrease primarily to lower operating income caused by severe winter weather that slowed construction activity. Net sales revenue was $3.7 million for the quarter, compared to $9 million for the first three months of 2013.

Despite the poor weather, Deltic’s overall operations “generated solid financial results,” Dillon said.

Deltic’s woodlands segment reported operating income of $5.3 million in the quarter, compared to $4.6 million a year ago. Its manufacturing segment saw operating income decline from $11.3 million in 2013 to $8.3 million.

Shares of Deltic stock fell 40 cents to close Monday at $60.50.

Deltic will hold a conference call at 10 a.m.

today to discuss the quarter’s results. Those interested in listening can call (866) 318-8617 and use the pass code 83968209. The call also can be accessed online at deltic.com.
