Body found in burned car awaits positive ID

FORREST CITY — Authorities are investigating after a person was found dead inside of a burned car in St. Francis County.

Sheriff Bobby May said the burned vehicle was found Monday morning on a rural bridge over the St. Francis River. May said the vehicle was not on fire when authorities arrived, but smoke could be seen coming from it.

The sheriff said authorities believe they know who the victim is but they're awaiting a positive identification from the Arkansas Crime Laboratory, along with a cause of death.

May told The Times-Herald that investigators think the case is a homicide but they're awaiting autopsy results to confirm that.
