Sheriff awaiting burned body’s ID

FORREST CITY - St. Francis County sheriff’s investigators are waiting for the results from a state Crime Laboratory autopsy to identify the body of a person found in a burned car, detective J.R. Kersey said Tuesday.

A passer-by noticed the charred remains of a car on a bridge on St. Francis County Road 744 between Forrest City and Madison on Monday morning, Kersey said. When investigators arrived, they found the body of a man inside the car.

Kersey said investigators do not know how the person died, nor if the death will be considered a homicide, until they receive a medical examiner’s report.

“Right now, we’re calling the cause of death as undetermined,” Kersey said “We’re waiting for the results before we confirm anything.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Francis County sheriff’s office at (870) 633-2611.
