Americana singer Medders to make Arkansas debut

Cheyenne Medders, an emerging Americana singer-songwriter, will perform tonight at the Rev Room in what will be his debut Arkansas show. A native of Resaca, Ga., who now writes and records in Nashville, Tenn., Medders has recorded Old Newhat, Window Magic volume one, a triple, Kiss With Busted Lips, Carry Us Away and Icing on the Knife.

Opening acts for the 8:30 p.m. show will be Joseph Le-May and The Coasts. Cover charge is $5.

Zoogma will bring a four man dance-oriented performance with light show Friday night. Lawler will open the show at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 the day of the show.

Rising Appalachia will perform at 9 p.m. Saturday. Georgia-born sisters Leah and Chloe Smith, the band’s primary elements, were “raised in the South with Appalachian lullabies at night and soul music for breakfast,” according to their website, which adds that the multi-instrumentalists play a mix of folk, soul, hip-hop, classical and Southern gospel. They have released six CDs and a DVD.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 the day of the show.

South on Main is presenting a special solo acoustic concert featuring Rhett Miller of the Old 97’s at 8 p.m. today as part of the Arkansas Literary Festival. Miller has released four solo albums, nine studio albums with his bands, and has written for Rolling Stone, The Atlantic and McSweeney’s.

A pair of acclaimed local bands will be featured this weekend at the White Water Tavern: Booyah Dad at 10 p.m. today and Weakness for Blondes at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Diarrhea Planet will perform tonight at Stickyz Rock ’n’ Roll Chicken Shack. The show will open at 9 p.m. with sets by Mad Nomad and Crooked Roots.

Juanita’s will present Louisiana rapper Kevin Gates at10:30 p.m. Saturday (following a 7:30 show by comedian Doug Stanhope). Tickets are $30, $100 for “V.I.P.” seating.

Gates is a former associate of Lil Boosie, featured on Gates’ 2008 single, “Get in the Way.” Gates’ second album, By Any Means, came out March 14 and debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart.

Sunday, the club will host Devil You Know, a metal rock band featuring singer Howard Jones, formerly of Killswitch Engage. The band is releasing its first album, The Beauty of Destruction, Tuesday. The opening act is Playing With Karma.

Lost in the Trees will perform Friday night at the Low Key Arts Center in Hot Springs. The group is touring in support of its latest album, Past Life, which follows the band’s acclaimed 2012 A Church That Fits Our Needs.

The Wild Moccasins will open the show at 8:30 p.m.

Admission is $10.

The For Freedom Tour will feature Jenny and Tyler as headliners, plus opening acts Venita Jones and Levi Weaver, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a free concert at Redeemer Community Church, above the State Revenue Office next to the Drug Emporium in the Ashley Square Shopping Center.

Formerly based in Nashville, Tenn., Weaver recently sold most of his belongings, bought an RV, and is touring the country with his wife, their two young children and their dog.
