Teen hits Wal-Mart officer with BB gun, police say

A 19-year-old Little Rock man tried to leave a local Wal-Mart with a stolen BB gun, but ended up striking a security officer with the weapon and then throwing it at him, authorities said.

Rudy Avila Jr. was booked into the Pulaski County jail Wednesday night on a charge of robbery. He remained there Thursday morning with bail set at $15,000.

According to a Little Rock police report, Avila "stole a BB gun by cutting it out of the packaging" and then attempted to leave the store.

He was confronted by an asset protection officer, at which point Avila struck the officer in the mouth with the gun and then threw it at the officer's head, the report said. It did not note whether the officer was injured.

Avila is due in court April 30.
