Trojans lose hitting coach

UALR Coach Scott Norwood was down an assistant coach in nonconference games Tuesday and Wednesday, and it will remain that way for the rest of the season.

Norwood said Wednesday that hitting coach Cole Gordon resigned Tuesday for personal reasons. Gordon did not travel Tuesday to Pine Bluff, where UALR lost 6-5 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and was not at Gary Hogan Field on Wednesday night when UALR defeated Central Arkansas 7-6.

“We wish him the best in his endeavors, and we look forward to keep pushing on with this team,” Norwood said.

Gordon arrived at UALR in July from Seminole (Okla.) State College. Norwood said the hitting coach duties will be split between assistants Chris Marx and Drew Maus.

“I love the staff that I have,” Norwood said. “I love the guys that we have. They play hard for this coaching staff, and this coaching staff works their tails off for them.”
