Van Buren’s chief of schools retiring

Van Buren School District Superintendent Merle Dickerson plans to retire July 1.

Dickerson posted a letter of resignation on Facebook on Monday that he previously submitted to the Van Buren School Board on April 17.

Dickerson wrote about his appreciation for the 21School Board members he had worked with since becoming superintendent in 2001, as well as the district’s 775 employees and the families of children in Van Buren schools.

“My heart will always be with the Van Buren School District,” he wrote.

He was out of the office late Tuesday.
