Baring Cross community garden meeting, cookout set

Residents of the Baring Cross community in North Little Rock are invited to a Friday night cookout during which they can sign up for a free community garden plot, the city said.

Volunteers from partner churches, businesses and agencies — including Habitat for Humanity, the North Little Rock Police Department, the Baring Cross Neighborhood Association, Pulaski Technical College — will get together Saturday morning to build 4-foot-by-8-foot garden plots that will be ready for planting May 3, the city said.

The garden plots will sit next to the Salvation Army Community Center, 1505 W. 18th St., as the nonprofit group aims to revitalize programs and services in the neighborhood, the city said.

The community garden meeting and cookout is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at the Salvation Army building and will include hot dogs, drinks and inflatables supplied by The Summit Church, 6600 Crystal Hill Road.
