Around 80 students from Central Arkansas Christian High School gathered at Boyle Park on Friday afternoon to clean up the park for the school's annual "Day of Service."
Norm Berner, volunteer park ranger program coordinator for Little Rock, said this was the first year for the school to work with the city for their service project.
"The principal of CAC contacted me just a short while ago and told me they were going to do a 'Day of Service', and wanted to know if this was a place they could come and help out," he said.
Students raked leaves, picked up trash, pruned trees and cleaned up bike trails around the park.
"Right now we've got a project started where we're starting to clear the overgrowth near the creek area and the pond area, and it was a great place for 80 or so students to come and help out," Berner said.
Berner said Boyle Park is under revitalization this year, and Little Rock's Parks and Recreation Department is making a concerted effort to improve the area.
The students spent about three hours working at Boyle Park.
"This is a great chance for students to get out and enjoy nature on a day like this and help make a difference in our city, especially in a park that's on the grow," Berner said.
