Education board approves Mexican campus for Arkansas State

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved the Queretaro, Mexico, campus of Arkansas State University that is scheduled to open in August 2015.

The board met in Little Rock Friday and gave its approval.

ASU Chancellor Tim Hudson said the campus in Mexico will expand opportunities for students and faculty and build relationships between the U.S. and Mexico.

More than 2,000 government, education and business leaders gathered in Queretaro in February for a groundbreaking ceremony for the $50 million privately funded campus. Officials say the campus will be the first comprehensive U.S. public university campus in Mexico.
