Gunbattle, chase ends in arrest of 1

Little Rock police officers exchanged gunfire with a man on whom they served a warrant Monday afternoon, but no one was hurt in the exchange in a neighborhood off Chicot and Mabelvale Cutoff roads, a police spokesman said.

The exchange occurred about 5:10 p.m. at 12 Valley Drive, police spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said in a statement. The man pulled out a weapon and began shooting when he saw members of the Police Department’s violent criminal apprehension team arrive, the statement said.

The officers returned fire and the man fled on foot, Allen said.

The officers chased and caught the man moments later in the neighborhood. He was taken to a hospital for an injury unrelated to the shooting, Allen said.

The man is in custody on the warrant charging him with first-degree battery. Additional charges are pending, Allen said.

His identity and the circumstances that led to the warrant were unavailable Monday night.
