MAYFLOWER — Residents of central Arkansas who lost power during a tornado are being offered a chance to charge their electronic devices at mobile generators deployed near heavily damaged areas.
AT&T and Verizon both offered help.
AT&T says it has set up a temporary cell tower near Mayflower and now has six sites set up as charging stations. The company reminds people that text messages go through quicker than phone calls when the call volume is heavy.
In Mayflower, the charging stations are at the high school and middle school.
In Vilonia, the stations are at City Hall and the Beryl Baptist Church.
In Conway, the locations are the AT&T store and Antioch Baptist Church, both on Amity Road.
Meanwhile, Verizon has increased the number of charging stations it offers in the storm-hit communities and said it will waive overage charges for voice, data and text for customers in the areas around Mayflower and Vilonia (ZIP codes 72034, 72032, 72106 and 72173).
Mobile charging stations will be open from 10 a.m. to dusk to customers of any wireless carrier - and will be in place for as long as needed - at six locations.
In Mayflower, stations will be at Mayflower Middle School, 10 Leslie King Drive; the Plantation Acres Subdivision.
In Vilonia, at Vilonia City Hall, 18 Bise St.; and at the Red Cross Shelter at Beryl Baptist Church, 873 U.S. 64 Business, Vilonia.
In Conway, at the Wal-Mart store at 1155 U.S. 65 and at the Best Buy store, 600 Elsinger Blvd.
