Hit-run suspected in death along I-55

JERICHO -- Authorities found the body of a woman Thursday morning on a service road along Interstate 55 near Jericho, Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said.

The state police, Troop D, in Forrest City received a report about 5:45 a.m. of the discovery of a woman's body lying on a road near mile-marker 14 in Crittenden County. Investigators suspect the woman was struck by a vehicle and the motorist fled.

The woman's body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory, Sadler said. Officers also examined the site where the woman was found to determine the model of the vehicle that might have struck the victim, he said.

State police have identified the woman but did not release her name, saying they were notifying relatives Thursday evening.
