Man accused of making false report of BB gun shots

A Jacksonville man was arrested Thursday after police say he reported someone fired a BB gun at his home, a residence where officers have responded more than 100 times in less than two years for similar calls, police said.

Darrell Penn, 62, is facing a charge of communicating a false alarm.

According to reports from the Jacksonville Police Department, authorities responded about 10:30 p.m. to Penn's home in the 1500 block of Pine Crest Drive, where Penn said a neighbor fired two shots from a BB gun at the back wall of his home.

But there were officers in the area, including one who had a direct view of the backyard who "did not see or hear anything," police wrote in one report.

Authorities noted in the reports that officers have responded more than 110 times to the same residence "regarding individuals shooting guns, BB guns or airsoft guns" since April 1, 2013.

Penn, whose bail was listed one one report at $1,000, was not listed an inmate at the Pulaski County jail Friday morning.
