A man in Jackson County shot his wife before committing suicide a little after noon Sunday, deputies said.
The Jackson County sheriff’s office said deputies received a call from a man who said he was worried about his father-in-law. The man said he received a call from Gayland McCall, 78, of Swifton, who said he had just shot his wife and was going to kill himself, deputies said.
When deputies arrived at the McCalls' home, at 407 County Road in Swifton, they found Gayland McCall and his wife, Mary McCall, 79, lying on the kitchen floor with gunshot wounds in their heads. A single 12-gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Both bodies were sent to the state medical examiner’s office to undergo autopsies, authorities said.
