A Memphis man who was believed to be fleeing the scene of a single-vehicle crash was fatally struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross six lanes of traffic on Interstate 40 near Sycamore View on foot, police said.

Sergio Ramirez, 42, had crashed his Chevrolet Blazer into a utility pole at Shelby Oaks, north of Summer Avenue, shortly before 10 p.m Saturday, Memphis Police Department officials said. Ramirez ran from the scene of the crash and attempted to cross I-40, where he was struck around 10:30 p.m. by a 2001 BMW X5. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW remained at the crash site while officers filed the report.

Charges have yet to be filed by police, and investigations into both crashes are ongoing.

Can someone please explain to me how was he chasing his own vehicle and crossing I-40 at the same time? Did his vehicle also cross I-40? If his vehicle was going in the same direction that he was running and chasing it toward, how did the vechicle get across I-40 without getting hit? I do not see the logic.

TGRANNY; read the article again; real slowly, and that will answer your question.
