Bodies of couple sent to Crime Lab

SWIFTON -- Authorities sent the bodies of an elderly Swifton couple found dead in their home Sunday to the state Crime Laboratory after Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas said he believed the case was a murder and suicide.

At 12:38 p.m. Sunday, a person called the Jackson County sheriff's office and reported that Gayland McCall told him he had just shot his wife and planned to shoot himself, Lucas said.

When deputies arrived at the home on Jackson County Road 407 in Swifton, they found the bodies of Gayland McCall, 78, and Mary C. McCall, 79, in the kitchen, Lucas said. Both were shot in the head with a 12-gauge shotgun, which was found in the kitchen, he said.
