Records: Majestic Hotel runoff not toxic

HOT SPRINGS — Documents from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality show water runoff from a hotel that burned down earlier this year isn't toxic.

The Sentinel-Record reported that a rainwater sample from the Majestic Hotel was tested about two months before a large fire ripped through the historic hotel in February.

The department said the sample's results showed no large amounts of contaminants in the runoff.

The blaze prompted the city to raze part of the hotel's complex and condemn the rest. Rubble has been piled along the street since the fire.

Garrison Hassenflu, the owner of the corporation that owns the Majestic property, has submitted a cleanup plan to the state's environmental quality department. A revised plan is expected this week.
