Texarkana man gets 4 years in child-porn case

TEXARKANA — A Texarkana man has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for downloading at least 600 child porn images on a work computer.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that 55-year-old Stephen Wayne Potts was sentenced Wednesday. Authorities say Potts downloaded the images on a computer issued to him by the Ark-Tex Council of Governments for an undisclosed period of time until July 2012.

The sexually explicit images depicted children younger than 12.

Potts had been released on a $10,000 bond after his arrest earlier this year. He pleaded guilty to a count of possession in April.

The judge sentenced Potts to four years and eight months in federal prison.

Potts' lawyer said during sentencing that his client doesn't think he needs to go to prison.
