Bicyclist fatally struck on U.S. 167 in Batesville

A 44-year-old Batesville man was killed Thursday night when the bicycle he was riding was hit by two vehicles on U.S. 167, authorities said.

It happened shortly after 10 p.m. as Woody Allen Thompson was riding a bicycle in the southbound, inside lane of the highway in Batesville, authorities said.

A southbound Chevy Malibu and Pontiac Bonneville that were traveling in the same lane then hit the bike, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Thompson died from unspecified injuries.

Conditions at the time were described as clear and dry.

The death was the 259th in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
