Work that was scheduled to close several streets in downtown Little Rock this weekend has been postponed, the city said in a statement.

CenterPoint Energy is in the process of installing a new gas line under the Arkansas River to replace one that is now carried on the Broadway Bridge, a span set to be replaced.

Workers had planned to shut Third and Fourth streets between State Street and Broadway as well as Arch between Third and Fourth beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting through 6 a.m. Monday.

But the city said in a news release that "drilling delays" have pushed the work back. A new date hasn't been set, though the statement said it would be an "upcoming weekend" and would be announced "as soon as possible to try to minimize impact and inconvenience to the motoring public."
