Springdale teen killed after vehicle flips

A Springdale man was killed early Monday morning when the vehicle he was riding in struck a curb and overturned into a parking lot.

Eliseo Landa-Zamora, 18, was riding in a 2005 Chevrolet traveling west on Meadow Avenue about 3:58 a.m., approaching Commercial Street in Springdale, when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, striking the curb, according to an Arkansas State Police report. Landa-Zamora died from unspecified injuries.

The vehicle then reentered the westbound lane, striking the opposite curb and overturned onto a parking lot. Ruth Figueroa, 18, and Mitchell James, 26, passengers in the vehicle, were both injured in the crash and taken to Washington Regional Medical Center. The vehicle’s driver, Gustavo Escalante, 20, was not injured.

Conditions at the time were described as clear and dry at the time of the accident.

Landa-Zamora’s death was the 263rd in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
