Gardening 101 Workshop: Seeds for Change

HOT SPRINGS — Adam Webb and colleagues from the Garland County Library will present A Gardening 101 Workshop: Seeds for Change, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Magnolia Room at Garvan Woodland Gardens. Attendees will learn how to participate in the new seed-bank program, as well as discuss best practices for gathering, cleaning and storing seeds. Participants will check out seeds at planting time and return a portion of their crops for next year’s supply of fresh seeds for other gardeners. HOT SPRINGS — The Hot Springs Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. in the Hot Springs City Hall Board Chambers, 133 Convention Blvd. Land-use requests will be heard for the following properties: Central Storage, 4252 Central Ave.; the north side of Twin Points Road, Forest Lakes rezone of tracts A and B; the north side of Twin Points Road, Forest Lakes rezone of tract F; and the south side of Twin Points Road, Forest Lakes rezone tracts C, D and E. HOT SPRINGS — The work of Hot Springs Village artists Linda Shearer and Caryl Joy Young will be on exhibit during August at The Artists’ Workshop Gallery, 610 Central Ave. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Ageless Bikers Club

SummerFest

HOT SPRINGS — Merchants and residents of Park Avenue will present a series of festivals from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the second Saturday of the month through September. Vendors will offer food, crafts, jewelry, tie-dyed items, metal and wood crafts, an organic dog wash, bicycle repair, organic fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers. Entertainment will include music, pottery demonstrations and a plein-air alla-prima painting party.

Merry Mixers Dance Club

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Hot Springs Village Merry Mixers dance to live music from 7:30-10:30 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of every month at the Coronado Community Center. A lesson is held at 7 p.m. on the third Saturday. Admission is $7.50 for first-Saturday dances and $10 for third-Saturday dances. Club members receive a discount for the season. Rhythmic Interactive Percussion

HOT SPRINGS — The Rhythmic Interactive Percussion musical event takes place from 5-9 p.m. Sundays at Kenneth Adair Park, 358 Central Ave. Participation is encouraged as ensemble members pass out drums, tambourines, maracas and more to audience members. HOT SPRINGS — The Hickory Hill Park Gospel Music singing will be held Aug. 23 in the park’s outdoor amphitheater at 216 Bryant Road, outside of Hot Springs. BRYANT — Relay for Life of Saline County will host its fifth annual Celebrity Waiter fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 25 at Larry’s Pizza. Donations and tips given to waiters throughout the evening will benefit the 2014 Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s largest annual fundraiser.
