BENTONVILLE -- A Siloam Springs teacher was arrested Wednesday in connection with rape.
Mary Faith McCormick, 32, was booked into the Benton County jail at 4:51 p.m.
Nathan Smith, deputy prosecutor, confirmed McCormick was arrested in connection with rape, a Class Y felony, involving a student.
McCormick is a sixth-grade teacher in the Siloam Springs School District. The Associated Press reported that she has been suspended as the matter is investigated.
Officers began to investigate an Aug. 8 report about McCormick engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy between June and August, according to a news release from the Siloam Springs Police Department.
The investigation involves the exchange of electronic messages, photographs and a sexual relationship between McCormick and the boy, according to the release. The relationship purportedly began on Snapchat, a smartphone app, with McCormick sending the boy a picture of her breasts, the AP reported, citing police.
