Westbound I-40 near Brinkley to be single lane for month

A nearly four-mile stretch of westbound Interstate 40 in Monroe County will be reduced to a single lane for roughly a month, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Friday.

Construction work on 3.8 miles of the interstate west of Brinkley between Bayou DeView and the Cache River, or mile markers 205 and 210, will begin Wednesday, the agency said in a statement. The work had been scheduled to start Tuesday but was postponed because of rain.

Two lanes of through traffic will be maintained on the eastbound side.

Significant backups have occurred in the same stretch of I-40 as ongoing construction in the area limited either direction to a single lane.

Motorists are urged to use caution in the work zone.

The department said workers are reconstructing the highway in the area.
