Assault charge filed over 'bump' by car

Jacksonville police arrested a Sherwood woman Friday on accusations that she intentionally struck a pedestrian crossing the street, a report said.

Police responded about 2 p.m. to the 150 block of Roosevelt Road, where Susan Durrett told officers she had been struck from behind by a Chevrolet Malibu traveling west, according to the report. Two witnesses told police they saw the vehicle "bump" Durrett.

The driver, Raven Smith, told police that Durrett walked in front of the car and didn't move after she honked the horn, the report said. Smith said that's when she "bumped" Durrett with the vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Smith, 19, was charged with aggravated assault. She remained at the Pulaski County jail late Friday with bail set at $5,000.

Police say narcotics in parcel; man held

A North Little Rock man was arrested Thursday after police intercepted a package of drugs mailed to his house, according to an arrest report.

Little Rock police delivered the package at 3:45 p.m. to 4317 Oak Grove Road, the home of Ben Shirley. Officers reported recovering 210 Xanax pills, 8.3 ounces of cocaine, 1 ounce of marijuana and a small amount of promethazine-codeine cough syrup. A semi-automatic pistol was also recovered from Shirley's residence, according to police.

Shirley, 46, was charged with maintaining a drug premises near a drug-free zone; simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms; delivering, possessing or manufacturing drug paraphernalia or a counterfeit controlled substance; and four counts of possession of a controlled substance.

He was being held at the Pulaski County jail in lieu of bond late Friday.
