1 injured, 1 dead by own hand in NLR

A man shot one person before fleeing and then turning the gun on himself Friday night in North Little Rock, according to police.

Officers responded about 10:15 p.m. to 717 Vine St., where they found John Walker, 57, with a gunshot wound on his neck. Walker was taken to UAMS Medical Center, where he had surgery, police spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick said. Walker's condition was unknown late Saturday.

The suspected gunman, Desjon Connors, 22, had been arguing with Walker before the shooting, Dedrick said. Connors had told people that he wanted to kill himself and "take someone with him," Dedrick said.

About 15 minutes after finding Walker, police found Connors dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at 1916 N. Poplar St. They found a .357-caliber revolver beside his body.

Walker told witnesses that he had been shot by his son, Dedrick said, who said police have not been able to confirm the relationship between the two.

Further circumstances of the shooting were unclear. An investigation is ongoing.
