Arkansas’ jobless rate dips to 6.2%

Arkansas’ unemployment rate dropped one-tenth of a percentage point in July to 6.2 percent, the state Department of Workforce Services said Monday.

The drop, from 6.3 percent in June, occurred as the state’s civilian labor force decreased by 7,900, a result of 7,200 fewer employed and 700 fewer unemployed Arkansans, Workforce Services spokesman Becky Heflin said, citing U.S. Department of Labor data.

“Compared to July 2013, the rate is down one and five-tenths percentage points, and the number of unemployed is down 20,800,” Heflin said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the U.S. unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percentage point, from 6.1 percent in June to 6.2 percent in July.
