2 veterans events set this week

Two Veterans Affairs events this week are aimed at creating dialogues on improving services for veterans and their families.

On Wednesday, the Little Rock VA office is hosting a town-hall-style meeting for veterans, family members and the public, and Saturday, the state Department of Veterans affairs will hold its biannual Women Veterans Summit, which will focus on transitioning into the civilian work force.

Wednesday's meeting will let people give feedback on VA operations and offer recommendations for how the VA can improve its programs, the department said. The town hall is set for 10 a.m. in Building 170 of the Eugene J. Towbin Healthcare Center, 2200 Fort Roots Drive in North Little Rock.

The Women Veterans Summit, whose theme will be "Urban Camouflage: From Service to Success," will aim to provide help for women into civilian careers after serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The free event will also feature booths about the different divisions of Veterans Affairs, civilian education and work opportunities, and lunch will be provided for those who RSVP. It's set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday at Sherwood Forest, 1111 W. Maryland Ave. in Sherwood.

“We really want to tailor the program to women veterans, especially those looking at life after service,” Veterans Affairs women veteran coordinator Gina Chandler said in a statement. “We will include everything from VA benefits and navigating the claims process to tips on interviewing and resume writing skills.”

Those who want more information or to RSVP may email Chandler at gina.chandler@va.gov, or Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs Public Affairs Officer Kelly Ferguson at kelly.ferguson@arkansas.gov.
