4 die in wrecks on state roads

Four people died in separate single-vehicle crashes on Arkansas roadways, Arkansas State Police reported Tuesday.

Austin Brackett, 16, was killed early Tuesday morning in Sevier County. The Lockesburg teenager was driving a Chevrolet Silverado east on Arkansas 24 when, shortly after midnight, the pickup exited the road, struck a ditch and overturned.

Brackett was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael Whitman, 48, died in a crash Monday in Hot Springs. He was driving an Infiniti G37 west in the 1300 block of Golf Links Road when he lost control shortly after 11 a.m. The car exited the roadway and struck a fence before crashing into two large trees.

State police also reported Tuesday that two people had been killed in separate single-vehicle crashes earlier this month.

Dallas Johnson, 82, of Scranton crashed Aug. 13 in Pope County. He was traveling east on Interstate 40 when about 12:23 p.m., his 2002 Lincoln struck a guardrail and overturned.

Johnson was taken to St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He died from his injuries Saturday.

Amanda Byrley, 25, died in a crash Aug. 2 in Pocahontas. She was a passenger in a 1997 Honda that crashed into a tree about 2:41 a.m. at 2502 Pyburn Extended.

Byrley was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the vehicle were taken to Regional One Health in Memphis for treatment.
