A heat advisory is set to go into effect for parts of east and northeast Arkansas as heat index values surge into the triple digits, the National Weather Service said.

Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Greene, Lawrence, Lee, Mississippi, Phillips, Poinsett, Randolph and St. Francis counties will be under the advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service said the heat index, which measures how the air temperature actually feels when humidity is taken into account, will range from 105 to 108.

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside" including drinking plenty of water, the weather service said in a statement. "When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening."

Other parts of central and eastern Arkasnas not under the heat advisory could also see heat index values as high as 105, the weather service added.

In Little Rock, a high of 96 with a heat index of 104 is forecast.
